with Rosa Sung Ji Chang from Indigo Shade Map

This workshop begins with a relaxing tea time and reviewing a newly published picture book “My Indigo World”  and original artworks that have been included in the book. Many of the artworks in the book are created with two printing techniques on fabric; hand stitched shibori and soy paste resist. Those two techniques have been traditionally practiced in East Asia including China, Japan, and Korea. Participants will focus on learning about the basics of Korean indigo that is widely grown in Baltimore, hand stitched shibori, and soy paste resist technique. All dyeing materials will be provided in this session. Each participant can bring one small fabric item made with natural fibers to apply either soy paste or shibori stitching patterns.

This is the perfect time you can dye your own short sleeve t-shirt and a tote bag with indigo!

All participants will be given a baby indigo seedling as a special gift for the My Indigo World launching event for all participants. Signed copies of My Indigo World will be available for sale upon request.
